The Young Men and the Dogs This is an account of our behavior during our parents three day absence. Day 1, 2:00 PM Mom's train leaves. Dave and I drive back from Fresno. With Mom and Dad gone there is just one "responsible" act left to perform: take our dog Pepper to the vet for her shots. At the vet I meet a dog named "Helga". Only in Kingsburg ("The Swedish Village") does this kind of thing happen. Dinner consists of microwaveable vegetarian Hot Pockets. I have pepperoni, Dave has ham and cheese. Due to numerous pressing matters, we don't get to bed until 10:00 PM. Day 2, 7:00 AM Dave wakes me up. Our wiener dog Geordi has slept in, obviously. I see no need to put on shoes or socks, or to comb my hair. I do, however, wash my face and put on deodorant. Breakfast is microwaveable Belgian waffles, grapes, and the usual assortment of vitamins. Dress is casual, but attendance is higher than usual. It would appear that our "open door" policy is a success. Day 2, 4:00 PM Lunchtime! Lunch consists of microwaveable corn dogs, and cantaloupe. Dave and I have a contest to see who can eat a corn dog the fastest. I win. Day 3, 9:00 AM Breakfast is, once again, a microwaveable waffle for me, but Dave has chips and salsa. Heavy rain puts a damper on our outdoor activities, so we begin work on a cheesecake. Day 3, 2:00 PM We play baseball with water-balloons. We both strike out nearly all the time. Unfortunately, I have no image of this extremely funny event. Day 3, 6:30 PM Mom and Dad return. Drat. |
